Ontario Adventure Racing Points Series

Rules & Regulations:

*New Rules for 2011* 2 major updates to the rules for 2011. First, teams will now be ranked in two divisions, namely "Sport" and "Pro". Secondly, instead of free entries, we're now offering a cash prize purse for the "Pro" category. Full details can be found below.

Ontario Adventure Racing Points Series (OARPS): The OARPS is comprised of a series of team-based adventure sport events taking place in the province of Ontario, Canada.  Teams must compete in participating events to collect points.  Teams will be ranked according to points collected from their three best races during the season.

Team:  For the purpose of the OARPS any team competing in any participating event will receive points.  Teams may draw from a roster totaling 6 team-mates.  Points will be allocated to teams based on their unique team name.  If two competing teams have the same name, they must inform the Points Committee of their respective team rosters.  If a team decides to change their name partway through the season, they must inform the Points Committee.  Teams can be Coed, All-Male, or All-Female in nature.  Teams with multiple rosters competing in a single event can only count the highest ranking team in that event towards their OARPS total.  Individuals may compete on different teams throughout the year.  Teams may be comprised of individuals from any province, state, or country.

Divisions: *New for 2011* OARPS will rank teams in two divisions, namely "Pro" and "Sport". The Pro division is for teams typically finishing in the top 10, or competing on longer courses. The Sport division is for teams finishing outside of the top 10, or competing on shorter courses. Many events in the series offer both long and short format courses on the same day, or weekend. For these events, teams participating on the longest course will be ranked in the "Pro" category, while teams participating on the shorter course(s) will be ranked in the "Sport" category. For events with only one length, or duration teams will be asked at registration which division they'd like to be ranked in.

Categories:  Coed, All-Male and All-Female categories will be recognized in the series.

Point Allocation:  Each Category in every event will have 100 points available. Points are allocated to teams based on their overall result in their respective category.  First place will receive 100 points.  Each subsequent team will receive points based on the following formula (Available Points – overall rank + 1).

Distance Considerations:  For events with multiple distance options, teams completing the longest course will be ranked in the "Pro" division, while teams completing a shorter course will be ranked in the "Sport" division.

Team Configuration Considerations:  For events with multiple team configuration options, i.e. teams of 2, 3, 4, or 6 allowed in the same event.  All configurations in the same category will compete against each other evenly for the purpose of the OARPS.

Adventure Run & Multisport events:  In keeping with the traditional theme of adventure racing (i.e. team-based, multi-discipline, navigation-based events) points from only one adventure run, and only one "multisport" event may be included in your teams total for the series. Multisport events are marked (i.e. no navigation is required) and typically involve cycling, running and paddling.

Individual Event Rankings:  Rankings received from the various Race Directors are considered final.  If your team would like to dispute a ranking, contact the appropriate Race Director.

Ties:  Ties will be decided by looking for the most recent event where both teams competed against each other.  The highest ranking team from that event will rank higher in the overall standings.

Prizing:  *New for 2011* A cash prize pool of $1650 will be allocated amongst the top 3 teams in the Pro Division of each category as follows: 1st: $300, 2nd: $150, 3rd: $100. Prize money will be paid to team captain's at the end of the season. There are currently no prizes for the Sport category.
